The resource object with key ‘S2LeftNav_Administration’ was not found

Sometimes when you are not able to access the Shared Services Search Settings page you get an unknown error. If your check the ULS Logs, you will find the following:

Windows SharePoint Services Exception Type: System.Web.HttpException Exception Message: The resource object with key ‘S2LeftNav_Administration’ was not found.

this usually occurs if you installed a hotfix or update on your SharePoint servers and it indicates that the update was not applied successfully and some files or pages were not updated successfully.

Solution:

Reapply the updates on your servers correctly and then run the configuration wizard.

If the above didn’t help, then think if applying another update or service pack for the configuration wizard to detect again that some changes happen and update the files.
